AL-HᾹDI (الْھَادِي) The Only True Guide

HIDAYAH does not mean simply guidance but guidance in a gentle and kind way to the means that lead to the sought after. AL-HADI is the source of all guidance. He kindly provides continuing guidance, leadership and direction to reach the straight path and also along the path until the goal is finally attained. He guided mankind by sending Prophets and Messengers. He is the only true guide by Whom His believers are guided by giving spiritual guidance of their hearts to discern the TRUTH.

HIDAYAH comes only from AL-HADI. We always ask Him in every prayer to guide us to the Straight Path: “Show us the Straight Path. The path of those on whom You has bestowed Your Grace.” [Al-Fatihah 1:6-7]

4 types of guidance according to scholars

I. The General Guidance: All living beings need this guidance and must accept to survive, like air, water, food, etc. It is a natural intuition that inspires the senses and feelings. This is more manifest and powerful in animals. They are guided by this instinct strong enough to manage their lives. – Our Lord is He who gave each thing its form and then guided [it]. [Ta-Ha 20:50]

II. The Leading Guidance: This is a religious guidance meant for all mankind andjinn to show them the Straight Path. – And shown him the two ways (goodand evil). [Al-Balad 90:10]. – O company of jinn and mankind, did there not come to you messengers from among you, relating to you My verses and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours? [Al-An’am 6:130]

III. The Helping Guidance: This is an extra guidance in ability (Tawfiq) and inspiration (Ilham) for more support for those who followed the second guidance. – And those who are guided, He increases them in guidance and gives them their righteousness. [Muhammad 47:17]

IV. The Ultimate Guidance: This is guidance in the Hereafter for the righteous believers as a result of following the third guidance. – And We will have removed whatever is within their breasts of resentment, while flowing beneath them are rivers. And they will say, Praise to Allah, who has guided us to this.” [Al-A’raf 7:43]
