AL-MUSTA’AN (المستعان) The One Sought For Help

AL-MUSTA’AN is the One whose help is sought and in whom refuge is taken. Linguistically, ISTI’ANAH refers to the concept of seeking help. ISTI’ANAH is an act of worship which is seeking the help from Allah alone. His help is always sought because He is capable to provide the best help at all times in any situation. Anyone’s help is dependent on His help, so turn to Him first before others. –  “You alone do we worship, and You alone do we turn for help.” [Al-Fatihah 1:5]. The Prophet said: “…If you seek help, seek help from Allah alone; and if you need assistance, supplicate to Allah Alone for help….” [Tirmidhi]. His help will come from where you never could have imagined.  – “And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him….” [At-Talaq 65:3]

  • … [Jacob] said, “Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. And Allah is the one sought for help against that which you describe.” [Yusuf 12:18]
  • He (Muhammad) said, “My Lord, judge between us in truth. And our Lord is the Most Merciful, the one whose help is sought against that which you describe.” [Al-Anbiya 21:112]
