Allah forgives repeatedly and continuously but He also punishes swiftly and severely. He is the only One who can give the best suitable punishment for He knows every person’s most secret weakness. His punishment can either be physical, psychological, either in this life or in the next or both. Allah created us, placed us on earth and provided us with whatever we need. Despite all of these blessings, disbelievers insist on denial and even hate believers and try to destroy their faith. Most of the time we do not realize the error in our ways and we do not see the consequences of our actions, so Allah punishes us in this world as a wake up call. If He allows us to continue with our wrong ways without punishment, then surely, we will have a greater punishment in the next life. Even in Allah’s punishment, there is a mercy (by being saved from a greater punishment in the Hereafter) and wisdom (to bring you back to His Straight Path while still in this world). – And we will surely let them taste the nearer punishment short of the greater punishment that perhaps they will repent. [As-Sajdah 32:21].

However, when we turn to Him in sincere repentance we will find our Lord to be the Most Merciful and Compassionate, regardless of the sins. – But if anyone repents after his wrongdoing and puts things right, Allah will turn toward him. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful. [Al-Ma’idah 5:39]

  • … And He is Mighty in strength and Severe in punishment (Shadidul Mihal). [Ar-R’ad 13:13]
  • … And if only they who have wronged would consider [that] when they see the punishment, [they will be certain] that all power belongs to Allah and that Allah is Severe in punishment (Shadidul Adab). [Al-Baqarah 2:165]
  • … Verily, He is All-Strong, Severe in punishment. [Ghafir 40:22]
