The ARSH of Allah

In the Arabic language, Arsh is a generic name standing for a throne. However, the Arsh of Allah has no similarity with the thrones of His creatures. His Arsh is the greatest creation. It is unique, none knows the essence, nature, substance, or greatness of His Arsh.  It is like a dome stretching over the entire universe and it is also the ceiling of Paradise. The Holy Quran is a revelation from Allah and the Prophet (ﷺ) did not utter any falsehood. Thus, we must believe and accept in what we are told about the Arsh in the Holy Quran and the authentic Ahadith.

Nothing is above the Arsh except Allah ﷻ, as He says about Himself:

  • The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established. [Taha 20:5)
  • Indeed, your Lord is Allah , who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne…. [Al-A’raf 7:54]
  • On the Day of Resurrection, eight angels will carry His Arsh. – And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day [of Resurrection], eight [of them]. [Al-Haqqah 69:17]
