Excellence of Hajj

It is one of the 5 pillars of Islam

  • To answer the invitation of Ibrahim’s call
  • To revive the Sunnah of Ibrahim, Hajr and following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ and all the Prophets
  • To be purified from sins
  • To be reminded of the Akhirah

To be a guest of Allah

  • You will be showered with blessings … forgiveness, Jannah, etc.
  • The reward of Hajj starts from your first step out of the house bound for Hajj.
  • Who are the 3 guests of Allah? Al-Hajji, Al-Mu’tamir, Al-Ghazi
  • Pilgrims and those performing Umrah are the guests of Allah. Their prayers are answered and their supplications for forgiveness are granted. [An-Nasa’i]

Hajj wipes all past sins

  • Abu Hurairah (radiyallahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “He who performs Hajj for Allah’s pleasure and avoids all lewdness will return after Hajj free from all sins as he was the day his mother gave birth to him.” [Bukhari and Muslim]
  • It is the only act of worship that can make up for the Kaba’ir (major sins) but one must have the Niyyah (intention) not to do it again.
  • It expiates all sins (minor and major)

Tawbah (repentance) for Allah

  • To purify self from Shirk (ascribing partners to Him)
  • To repent sincerely for all the sins in in compliance with Allah’s command
  • …and all of you beg Allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful. [An-Nur 24:31]

It is a form of Jihad

  • Jihad for women is Hajj. Abu Hurairah (radiyallahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Hajj is the Jihad for the old, the weak and the women.”
  • If a Muhrim dies, do Ghusl for him, head uncovered
  • If a Shahid (martyr) dies, no Ghusl for him
  • 3 under the protection of Allah
  1. One who left his home for Salah
  2. One who left his home for Hajj
  3. One who left his home for Jihad
  • Aishah (radiyallahu anha) reported that she once said: “O Prophet of Allah! Jihad (striving or fighting in the cause of Allah) is the best deed. Should we (women) then, not actively participate in it? The Prophet replied: ‘The best Jihad for you is Hajj Mabrur.’”

One of the best deeds

  • Abu Hurairah (radiyallahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ was asked: “What was the best deed? He replied: “To have faith in Allah and his Messenger.” The inquirer asked: What next? The Prophet said: “To strive in the cause of Allah.” What next best thing? He replied: “Hajj Mabrur (faultless Hajj that is free of sin and is graced with divine acceptance and pleasure).”
  • Encourage people to do Hajj Mabrur حج مبرور.
  • Mabrur comes from the word بره Birh which combines all types of good deeds
  • Meaning of Hajj Mabrur (perfect Hajj)
  1. Free from all types of sins
  2. Done purely for Allah (no Riya)
  3. Signs: feeding the needy, humble, polite, tolerant, forgiving …

The reward is Jannah (Paradise)

  • Feeling that this Dunya is worthless
  • Feeling of satisfaction
  • Abu Hurairah (radiyallahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “All sins committed in between the performance of one Umrah to Umrah are expiated and erased, and the reward of Hajj is nothing except Paradise.” [Agreed Upon]

Excellence of spending in Hajj

  • For each Dinar spent for Hajj, the reward is 700X
  • It wipes out poverty. How? The reward is 700 times
  • It will come back to you in some way or another
  • The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allah, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He pleases. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures needs, All-Knower. [Al-Baqarah2:261]
  • Buraidah (radiyallahu anhu) reported that the Prophet ﷺ as saying: “Spending during Hajj is akin to spending in the cause of Allah, and every Dirham thus spent will be rewarded seven hundred times over.”

Strengthens the ties of Muslims

  • Shows practical unity and brotherhood

Establishes the principle of equality

  • Wearing the same garments
  • Doing the same rites, etc.

Reminds us of resurrection

  • Millions of people from different parts of the world from all walks of life gather together in a small area in one place, resembling the Day of Judgment

Demonstrates the peacefulness of Islam
