Failure or Success

CONDITIONS OF PEOPLE AFTER RAMADAN

The Successful

  • Those who achieved the objectives of Siyam
  • Main goal of Siyam: to attain Taqwa [Al-Baqarah 2:183]
  • They deserved congratulations because they got the gold medal of:
  • Rahmah (mercy)
  • Maghfirah (forgiveness) and
  • Itqun Minan Nar (save from Hellfire)

The Losers

  • Those who lost the chance
  • They fasted from lawful but broke it from forbidden – gossiping, fighting …
  • They deserved condolences because they did not passed the Ramadan course
  • Their thesis are not accepted

The Seasonal Muslims

  • Those who are between number 1 and number 2
  • They stopped as Ramadan ended
  • Ramadan is a training to be a better person

And be not like her who undoes the thread which she has spun after it has become strong, by taking your oaths as a means of deception among yourselves, lest a nation should be more numerous than another nation. Allâh only tests you by this [i.e who obeys Allâh and fulfills Allâh’s Covenant and who disobeys Allâh and breaks Allâh’s Covenant]…” [An-Nahl 16:92] [see also Ibrahim 14:36-37, 47:32]

SIGNS THAT SAWM IS ACCEPTED

  • Improvement in her obedience to Allah
  • “And remember when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]…” [Ibrahim 14:7]
  • Increase in MORE good deeds
  • Staying away from bad deeds
  • Constant repentance
  • Stronger in belief

SIGNS THAT SAWM IS NOT ACCEPTED

  • Following good deeds with evil ones
  • Back to the old self
  • Leaving the five prayers in congregation, after they filled mosques for Tarawieh prayers, thus going to the Masjid for recommended prayers and leaving obligatory ones
  • Return to musical entertainment, forbidden films, free mixing …

MAKING-UP THE MISSED DAYS

  • Best: to make-up as soon as possible i.e. do it in the month of Shawwal
  • Can be made up before the next Ramadan
  • Proof: Aishah said: “Sometimes, I do the missed days in Sha’ban.”

5 THINGS THE PROPHET ﷺ NEVER MISSED

  • Sawm in Ashura
  • Sawm in the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah
  • Sawm in 3 days every lunar month
  • Sunnah Salah of Fajr
  • Salah Al-Witr
